The Godber Theatre Foundation

Inspiring talent from Hull & East Yorkshire

Our Vision

The Godber Theatre Foundation is an initiative which supports students specifically from Hull and East Yorkshire alongside their degree-level training in theatre arts subjects offering them mentorship, industry seminars, professional experience and financial aid. The aim is to develop their career during and after training. We are only too aware that the Arts is one of the most difficult industries to break into, particularly if you are from a working class background. The Godber Theatre Foundation seeks to support and inspire talented individuals from Hull and East Yorkshire on their journey to achieving their career goals.

The Godber Theatre Foundation is in partnership with the John Godber Company. John and Jane Godber have been working with young people in Hull for over a quarter of a century, and have seen many students they have worked with go on to have successful careers and gain places at leading drama schools. The Godber Theatre Foundation will continue this legacy.

Professional Gateway

The John Godber Company is proud to offer a number of Foundation members their first jobs in the industry and over the past year alone has employed 10 Foundation members in professional roles across production and performance.

Our alumni have gone on to work at Cast Theatre in Doncaster, for Bradford City of Culture, with local companies like Hull Truck, The Herd and Middlechild, in costume design at Glydbourne and on the West End. Last year Emilio Encinoso-Gil was nominated for a Broadway World best supporting actor award for his role in Do I Love You? and Prince Kundai worked on the West End with Kit Harrington in Slave Play.
